While we always wish you the most perfect and bountiful harvest, we know that won't be the case for every planting in every season. Even with the best mitigation techniques and treatments, you still might lose a planting due to weather, insects, nutrient deficiency, or any number of other issues. If this happens, you can easily record a loss on the planting and report on those losses later. This can be used to record complete loses of a planting ( field/bed), or partial losses for individual plants within a planting as well.
To record the loss, navigate to the planting you need to work with. This can be done from the Grow Location or the Crop Type. From either of those, you can select the Actions Menu (3 Dots) and choose Record Loss. In our example below we have 2 plantings of peppers that were harvested successfully, but another one that was lost due to an insect infestation we couldn't mitigate.
From there, you'll be able to supply information for the loss. This includes how many plants were lost from the planting and a loss reason. You can select from various options like accidents, drought, pests, equipment failure, and more. You can also write a quick description to act as a note for what happened to cause the loss. Once recorded, the lost amount will be removed from the number planted, which also automatically reduces the area planted as well.
You can then view the loss in the planting summary timeline, and run a report to view it. Just navigate to the planting, and you'll see the loss (and noted comment) shown in the timeline to the right. After that, you can access the Plantings tab of the Standard Reports section to run the Crop Losses Report. You'll see the date of the loss, the amount remaining, and the description of the loss as well.
