Managing Grazing Location

Farmbrite’s grazing features make it easy to keep track of where you animals are grazing, how long they’ve been in a certainly field and to easily determine when you might need to rotate your herd to greener pastures.

You can access the grazing features from fields, livestock, and individual animals

On an individual field, select the “Grazing tab”. Here you can move animals in and out of this field.

Viewing all Fields actively being grazed

To view all your fields that have animals actively assigned to graze on them, navigate the main “Livestock” section and click on the “Grazing” tab. This view provides easy access and an overview of the current fields in your grazing rotation. You’ll see each field that has animals actively assigned to it, including the field’s Name, Year, Size, and the number of animals actively grazing, and the average number of days those animals have been grazing in that field. Click on the field name or the animal count to access the grazing details for that field.

Moving animals into field

Click on the “Move into this Field” button to select the animals you are grazing in this field. You’ll be prompted to search for animals you’re grazing. You can search by Name, Type or Keywords, simple type into the search field, hit enter or the search icon button. If there are any matching animals they will be listed below. You can select all (with the checkbox in the header of the search results) or select individual animals. You can also specify the date the animals started grazing in this field (defaults to the current date).

Once you’ve selected the animals you want to move into this field, press the “Move to Field” button at the bottom right. This will assign these animals to this field, moving them out of any other field they may currently assigned to.

Grazing animals List

Once you’ve assigned animals to a field you will see a list of these animals. Each animal shows a thumbnail (if available), Breed, Name, The date the animal started grazing, the number of days grazing, and a link to move the animal to another field or the date the animal was moved out of the field (depending on if the animal is currently grazing).

Above the list of animals, you will see 2 charts. One chart displays a breakdown of the types of animals assigned to the field and the other chart shows when animals were moved into the field to graze.

By default the list of grazing animals only displays the animals actively assigned to the field. To view historic grazing records, change the dropdown next to the search bar from “Active” to “All” and the list and charts will display information for both animals currently grazing in the field and animals that previously grazed in the field.

You can also search for animals by using the search field above the list of animals. Search by Name, Type, Tag, or Keywords.

Click on the name of the animal to view it.

Click on the Red “X” in the right actions column to delete the record from Farmbrite.

Note Deleted records cannot be recovered.

If you have a lot of grazing records, you may need to page through the list to find the one your looking for. Use the paging buttons at the bottom right of the gird to move between pages of records.

Moving animals out of field

When you’re ready to rotate animals out of a field you can accomplish this in a few ways.

  1. Select the “Move out of this Field” button under the field animals are currently assigned. This will move all animals actively grazing in this field to another field.
  2. Next to each animal listed under the Grazing tab click the “Move Fields” link to move that individual animal to another field.
  3. From an individual Animal select the “Move into Field” button.

All of these actions will ask you to select a new field and the date the animal(s) started grazing.

This feature is only available on certain plan types.
