Opening a Subaccount

Farming is a business all about growth. Your plants and animals grow over time, and hopefully your business does as well! As you expand into new ventures and purchase more land, you might be faced with the additional responsibilities that come along with that growth. This could be things like a separate set of accounting books, different tax filings, unique certifications, and a whole different staff of employees. You might be able to blend the two to begin with, but as your second operation grows more and more, you might want a second Farmbrite account to track the data separately.

We can help you with that! We call this a Multi-Farm Account, and have many customers that use this feature.  The rest of this article will tell you a bit more about how this could work for you, but know that we want you to reach out to us to discuss your need so be can be sure having multiple accounts will get you what you need.  The setup and configuration for this must be done on the back end of the system by us, so let us know you're interested in this and we will get the ball rolling for you.

How does access work?

A Multi-Farm Account can link multiple Farmbrite accounts together under a single administrative account. You could think of this as an "access hub", where you log in a single time and then select which subaccount you want to work with. This means you only need one login and password to access all of your businesses. You can also create other administrative users that have access to all of subaccounts as well. Along those lines, you can create individual users in each subaccount as well that only have access to that account, and give them any permission level you'd like.

How is data separated?

The Multi-Farm Account connection joins multiple separate Farmbrite accounts into one. Each account still has all of the features you would get at it's plan level, and the data is associated with and stored in that specific account. In addition to that, the Multi-Farm dashboard compiles and summarizes some of the data across accounts, like expenses, animal counts, and crop data.

What are some good use cases for a Multi Farm Account?

  1. Separate Financial Data - If your separate businesses need separate tax filings and accounting, you'll likely want a Multi-Farm account. You'll be able to track expenses and income for each business separately with a unique chart of accounts for each. You'll also have separate financial reporting, so Tax Summary and Profit and Loss Statements reports will only contain the data from one business in each account.

  2. Separate Physical Locations - If your two businesses are not geographically close, having a second account gives you a second farm map, and thus less scrolling and zooming to find your second location multiple states away.

  3. Separate Users and Staff - If users in Account A should not see the data in Account B, and vice versa, a  Multi-Farm account is the best way for you to separate that data entirely and limit it's access.
