Do you sell items like produce and meat by weight? If so, perhaps you have them prepackaged into specific weights, like half or quarter pound packages that your customers can request. Or, maybe you weigh and package your products based on exactly how much the customer asks for, down to the tenth of a unit. No matter how you sell your items, you can set a Purchase Increment on each individual product to be sure you offer it at the right quantities in your online store.
Note: You can always sell whatever quantities and increments you'd like in your Point of Sale or Admin orders that you enter manually. This setting is specifically used to determine the increments your customers can purchase in your Online Store.
To configure this option, navigate to the Products section of the Market, and select the product you'd like to work with. You'll see an option for Purchase Increment in it's setup. By default the increment is one ( a whole unit), but you can update your increment to any of the following:
- 1 - Only whole numbers can be purchased, no decimals places for partial units.
- .5 - Only half units can be purchased (e.g. 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, etc. )
- .25 - Only quarter units can be purchased (e.g. 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 1.5, etc.)
- .1 - Only tenth units can be purchased ( e.g. 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, etc.)
In our example below, we set up our blueberries to be be sold in half pound increments.
Now when our customers add the blueberries to their cart, they can increase their purchase at these increments. The cart will also prevent them from ordering a increment that is not supported by that product. Notice the error message displayed when they try to purchase 3.25 in the image below.
Let us know if you have any questions about using these increments in your online shop!
