Sometimes your best made plans need to change! Many different situations might cause you to need to make adjustments to your crop plan. Maybe your seed order was delayed and they haven't arrived yet, or more likely the weather did not cooperate with your expectations - Mother nature has a tendency to do that! It might be warmer than expected and you can start earlier, or maybe a late season frost delayed you by a week or two. Whatever happens, you can always adjust your seed start date, and see your planting, flowering, and harvest dates adjusted automatically as well.
The feature for Transplant Age explained in this article is designed for and exclusive to plantings that are started in trays and then later planted in the ground. It is not available for direct sown crops.
This connected planting timeline starts with defining some crop type details, so let's start there for our example. Just navigate to the crop type you want to work with and view its details tab. You can also set these parameters when you create the crop type as well.
- Start Before Last Frost - Connected to your last frost date in your settings, this will automatically set your seed start date for your planting.
- Transplant Age - A defined amount of time that you would like the seedling to remain in the "seed started" growth stage, prior to it being planted in it's permanent grow location.
- Days to Maturity - This calculates the date you might harvest the plant, based on the time between the planting date and expected harvest date.
Now that you know the details that get used, in our example below we will create a planting of our tomatoes. Note the connection between seed start date on 3/27, planting date on on 5/15 (7 weeks later), and expected harvest date on 7/24. We then adjust the seed start date by 5 days in the future, and see those 5 days added to the planting date and expected harvest as well.
When something changes in your plans, those connections and date durations are retained. Continuing our example, we added two weeks to the seed start date and changed it to 4/15, which automatically updated our planting date and expected harvest date. You can click anywhere on the page for it to recalculate after changing the seed start. This updates the planting overall when saved, so thus your crop plan, reports, grow location plans, etc. are all updated as well. Note that it may take a few minutes to see those updated in the software.
