What's New - March 2025

You may recall that last month's What's New article outlined many smaller but valuable improvements to the software. We received great feedback on this and many more ideas for enhancements that might not take a lot of effort but would have a large effect on daily usability for our farmers. With these great ideas and feedback, we have continued the same theme this month! You'll find enhancements all around Farmbrite, including accounting, livestock, crops, and inventory.  They're categorized by section below; let's dive right in!

Accounting

We've made the process of importing your bank data much easier. Not everyone likes working in spreadsheets, so we've removed the restrictions on the required fields in the import and created a bulk update feature to let you update them afterward. So if you've ever been frustrated trying to map your financial categories in the import template, know that you can now import the transactions without them and then bulk select and assign them within the software. We've also improved the import file process to allow you to more easily use your own file directly exported from your bank website.

Livestock

We made many updates to the Livestock system this month!

  • You'll find a new Livestock Yield Comparison report that analyzes the harvests from your animals over time. It compares them by breed, and you'll see the relative output graphed to help you decide which breeds are working best for your needs.

  • You can now track an Expected Maturity Date on your animals with an associated mature weight goal. When combined with livestock measurements, you'll see a bar showing progress towards that weight goal and date on the animal's record as well as an alert if the data has passed and they are underweight.

  • There is a new option to mark animals as gifted or donated on their record. You can also record the donor, donation date, and donation value. These fields are reportable, and the Livestock Inventory report has been updated to reflect this new status too.

  • If you make a mistake when adding records to a livestock group, you can now delete the group treatments, inputs, and grazing moves from the group in a single action. This should save you some time and clicks, as previously, this needed to be accomplished from each individual animal record.

  • If you add a livestock group treatment that has a cost associated with it, the expense transaction created will now be a single record with split sub-transactions for each animal. This gives you a cleaner experience when viewing your accounting dashboard; only one row is displayed instead of one for each animal.

  • You can now connect your animal genealogy via tag number in an import. This previously required the Farmbrite ID, but it can now be done using the tag numbers you are familiar with from your animals.

  • If you record daily yields like milk or eggs, you can now copy previous yield records. This retains much of the data from the previous yield, but you can still edit and update it to be accurate to the new one.

Crops

  • You can now copy and paste harvests to create new records. Like the livestock feature above, this could save a lot of time for growers who harvest often, like microgreens or repeated CSA boxes.

  • The Bulk Planting feature has been enhanced to allow for planting by quantity. If you plant a specific number of starts that you get from a supplier, you can now bulk plant them without calculating the square footage needed.

  • Beds will now display the length remaining available to plant. If you plant your crops based on row length, you'll see a new feature showing you how much horizontal space remains in the bed.

  • The Crop Plan has been enhanced to better sequence beds when sorting the chart by location. This gives you an easier view of the beds in the correct order within the field.

Inventory

  • The Lot Number system has been enhanced to create more unique lot numbers for your harvests and inventory additions. They are now encoded with the year and day of the addition and a sequential harvest number if they came from different additions on the same day.

  • The button to make a recipe has been added to the main inventory item page, giving you easier access to making your feed and finished products.

  • You can now use the field for Estimated Value on your inventory custom reports. This gives you the total value of the quantity you have on hand for that inventory item in that location.

Market

  • There are new fields available on your Orders to record who picked up a customer order and who processed the order on your side. This can help you track down an issue with pick up or packing.

Reports

  • There is a new Subtask Completed report available under the User Activity reportsThis shows all the individual checklist items on the completed task, along with who they were assigned to.
